Superficial Heat

What is superficial heat?

Hot water bottles, heating pads or hot and humid towels are used to help rise the temperature of soft tissues located just under the skin.

How does the application of heat work?

Heat applied on the surface of the skin dilates the subcutaneous blood vessels, which allows soft tissues to relax and temporarily ease the pain. Enhancing blood circulation and relaxing muscles can be beneficial before and after chiropractic treatments, exercises or other treatments.

When should we use application of heat?

Heat is generally recommended to relax tissues during spasms and to temporarily relieve the symptoms associated to chronic pain and muscular tensions.

Why do we use heath application?

The use of heath to relax the chronically contracted and irritated tissues is a good way to enhance flexibility, mobilty and blood circulation, which allows to accelerate the recovery process.
